Simply Start Somewhere, The Road Ahead Will Unravel Itself

I, Rehana Kausar, resident of Chowk Shah Abbas Multan. For the longest time I had been looking for a platform where I could leverage the market, refine my embroidery skills and sell without middleman tariff. I had skills but no source of income as I was unfamiliar with how to connect with market and did not know of any platforms where I could have displayed my skills. Through Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) programme the industry doors opened for me. I could see my hopes of crafting bright futures for my twin sons and two daughters becoming a reality. Educated with a bachelor’s degree, I, stepped into the business world when my son became gravely ill. With the help of my daughters, I started sewing bed sheets and pillow covers and selling them door-to-door. One day, I received an invitation to take part in an exhibition where I displayed my bed sheets and noted that my work was popular. I am an industrious artisan, with the ability to create opportunities. As a result, my son also started his own business, my twins completed their matriculation, and my daughter is married. As I get older, I won’t be able to go door-to-door. Aangan – a digital e-commerce platform, has given me the ease of selling my crafts directly from home. Being part of the Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry, I continuously participate in sharing my talents and work for the promotion of women in business in Pakistan.
